Damir Kolec, the winner of a special award at the Day of Istrian Sports

Each year, the Association of Sports of the Istrian Region on the Day of Istrian Sports also grants special recognition to sports associations or individuals that have given a remarkable contribution to the development and affirmation of Istrian Sport, or achieved some extraordinary results.

By the decision of the Executive Committee, this year's special award was given to the former handball player and now a very successful fitness coach from Pula, member of SB Community team - Damir Kolec, who has been building his coaching career for many years abroad. Damir Kolec was born in Pula on 21.5.1975. In 1983 he started to practice athletics at AK Istra from Pula, and then starts playing handball at the RK Arena from Pula. He continues his career in Medvešćak Zagreb, and Gorica from Velika Gorica. In 2000 he returned to his native Istria and started playing for RK Umag. In 2007 he moved to Spain where he was playing for HC Torevijeha Spain, aand after that he left professional handball career.


Meanwhile, he graduated on the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb and earned the title of Professor of Kinesiology and Handball Coach.
In describing his job, he says that he is involved in planning and programming the training process cycles, recovery of players, rehabilitation and of course physical preparation. Damir is one of the most prominent experts in fitness training for athletes, especially volleyball.


He worked for volleyball clubs: CAV Murcia -Murcia Spain; Fenerbahce Acibadem, Istanbul -Turkey; Rabita Baku, Baku-Azerbaijan; and from 2012 for Dinamo Moscow, Moscow -Russia
In the past 8 years Damir reached 27 medals with volleyball clubs: 19 gold, 6 silver; 2 bronze And with Russian volleyball national team, the gold medal in 2015 European Championship, and the silver medal at the 2015 World Grand Prix.
